To me, the ultimate challenge in life is finding your purpose.
This topic has caused me a lot of stress in my life just like everyone else. Little did I know I was approaching it all wrong. This blog is all about how you can find your purpose and find peace in your journey to get there.
One mistake I was making was asking myself “how am I going to make a lot of money?” instead of asking myself “what lights me up inside” and “how can I use my passions to serve others?” When you shift your perspective on finding your purpose it gets a whole lot clearer. I was so focused on just making a lot of money I disregarded everything else. I was doing things I didn't even enjoy and they caused me a lot of stress. Until I took a step back and reevaluated my situation, my beliefs, and my values.
Step 1: Finding Your True Self
The first step in the journey of finding your purpose is discovering your true self. It’s going to be really hard to figure out what your life's purpose is if you don't even know yourself. For me, I was in a situation where I had nobody but myself and I decided to take that time as an opportunity to get to know myself instead of being sad for myself that I was alone. This was the best thing I ever did. During this time, I discovered my purpose.
Ways to get to know yourself
- Journal prompts ( check out the journal prompts at the end )
- Meditation !!
- Spend time alone, take yourself out
- Do more of what you love
Continuing to do the work, a lot of people get discouraged if they don't have a huge breakthrough a week into doing the work. Take time out of each day to get to know yourself and trust in the process. Also doing the work has so many other benefits, you gain more confidence, more clarity on yourself, more self awareness, and overall mood is increased. Don’t get discouraged if you have bad days, you got this!!
Step 2: Shifting your perspective & letting go of limiting beliefs
More than likely there is something holding you back. Maybe you are afraid of what your friends will say if you went after that one thing that you have been wanting to do for so long. Or maybe you are afraid of failing. Maybe you are scared of the unknown. Our mind tries to protect us by making up all these crazy scenarios to stop us from doing something beautiful to protect us from our fears. Once you realize that you are not that voice in your head and you have control over that voice you are a lot closer to accomplishing something truly beautiful. The most successful people in the world have those little voices in their head telling them that they can't do it, that they are going to fail but they choose to not listen to them and you can do the same.
Another mindset shift to adapt to go after your purpose is, realizing that there is no such thing as failure. When I ‘fail’ at something I look at it as a learning opportunity to grow and become better and to me that is a win. Adapting this mindset has allowed me to chase my wildest dreams that I thought I would never gain the courage to chase. One of my favorite quotes is from Nelson Mandela, he says “I never lose. I either win or I learn.”
Go after your dreams and never stop fueling your passions!!
Step 3: Surround yourself with like minded people
After gaining more clarity of who you are and what you want you may realize that some people in your life do not align with you anymore and that is okay. Growing out of people is a part of life. This is also a very challenging part of life. It's hard to let go of the things and people that we are used to. But if you have negative and energy draining people in your life, it is time to let go. Being surrounded by this will only keep you away from your life's purpose and your overall goals in life. As hard as this may be, it's necessary and worth it. The people that match your energy and align with your goals will be there on the other side, you WILL find your people.
Step 4: Gratitude & appreciation for the present moment
A huge part of finding your purpose is letting go of the attachment of it and just being grateful and appreciative of where you are now. I think a lot of people rush the process and they can't even enjoy it. They want success right away and they get so attached that the journey is not even enjoyable, not to mention rushing blocks creativity. Let go and trust in your journey and yourself that you will get there.
Another way to unlock your potential and unlimited creativity is finding the present moment. There are so many distractions all around us and we lose the only thing we have, which is this present moment. My top 3 ways that help me to become more present is being in nature, mediation, and breathwork. These 3 things are really beneficial and if you practice these everyday you will gain so much clarity in every area of your life.
Step 5: Serving others
Instead of asking “what is in this for me?” or “Is this going to make me rich?” ask yourself “how can I serve more people?” “How can I use my passions to help others?” I have noticed that when I am coming from a place of providing and serving others I get more in return. I fully believe in the more you give the more you get. Also the feeling of giving and making a difference in other people's lives is the best feeling ever. Everything is energy and there is so much power behind giving and that power will come right back to you in beautiful ways :)
